Howdy folks,

For those of you still using Xserve G5's, you have likely encountered some bad PSUs. And if you haven't yet, don't worry, you will soon enough! A working PSU will run you several hundreds of dollars on eBay and will likely fail soon as well.
These PSUs need a recap.

Having done 80+ of these Xserve G5 recaps to date, only one was an unsuccessful repair (a massive power surge fried the thing). So for just a few bucks, you can easily bring these PSUs back to life 99% of the time!

I have typed up a few posts about repairing these things:
https://thehouseofmoth.com/recapping-an-xserve-g5-power-supply-part-1-preparations/
https://thehouseofmoth.com/recapping-an-xserve-g5-power-supply-part-2-recap-and-test/
https://thehouseofmoth.com/recapping-an-xserve-g5-power-supply-part-3-additional-notes/

Now either those posts are really, really poorly written, or people just don't feel like doing this repair themselves. Either way, I have these PSU's shipped my direction from all over the world frequently year-round :)

If you want one of these PSUs repaired and also prefer to have someone else do it, I'm happy to help!
For the latest info on this, and other, services I offer, take a peek at this webpage.

Long live Xserve! [sign-of-the-horns]

I am guessing the power supplies are no the same as in the Intel Xserves? Just an idle question because I am too lazy to look it up right now.

You missed a cap, its next to 7. I found this a while back but didn't realize you had this thread. I forget what the value was however.

Oh. Must have missed that. Your sheet definitely helped. How did you get the silicone off without melting the caps? That's the worst
