Yes, I've been pondering that lower weight benefit quite a lot actually. Click to expand...
I think that is also the case with the SE/30 LCD+AB upgrade. I hope to get it this week so I can experience it myself.

Thanks for adding the photo.

So it seems the LCD offers a bit more brightness than the CRT set to its upper brightness level. That's good to hear.

@Kai Robinson
If I buy the LCD kit for my Color Classic, will you watch it in its entirety?
:geek:

Regardless, I am strangely compelled to open my low-on-cash wallet for this kit, even though I know I will likely get hate from the purists who demand CRT tubes in every vintage machine out there. Nevertheless, my video about the @zigzagjoe LCD Color Kit was far more popular than I ever expected. It's racked up 13k views to date, which is far more than my other videos in the same span of time. Oddly, the all-so-important BRIGHTNESS KNOB video I did as a follow-up has only garnered a measly 534 views. So basically, 13K views dropped to less than 1K. So very odd. Sure glad I don't do YouTube for a living because the number of views is never commensurate with the amount of time and effort I put into making them.

To buy or not to buy...

... THAT is the question.

The required PSU is "out of stock" on Amazon Japan, but I suppose I could wait until it's back in stock. Hopefully it will be.

Everyone who wants me to buy the CC LCD Kit, please put a Like or Heart on this post. :) [person-with-folded-h]

Yeah sure, i'd love a similar solution for the SE - probably a little easier given the fact it's 1-bit video. I'm not a CRT Purist - as long as its functional and it looks the same - this can serve to save more machines that have duff analogue boards/failing flybacks, but good logic boards.

It's a form of preservation, IMO.

That is exactly right. I came to terms with this years ago when the flyback of my CC fizzled out. There were polkadotted AB for sale at like 250$ which is absurd.
so I started thinking how to allow more AB and the solution came with this kit - took me 5 years but it's here now! And the nice part, I built it so no permanent modifications are required and it's 100% reversible. You could remove the analog board, shield, CRT and simply replace all that with my kit. And return the CC to its original state in an afternoon of slow and happy tinkering...

And if you're like me, and get fed up with the CRT thing, just sell to a purist the AB and CRT. Everybody wins!

Honestly I have three color classics (CC1, CC2, and a Performa 275) so I am more than happy to leave two of them "pure" with CRTs and analog boards and then upgrade my mystic with this kit. I feel like I'll get more use out of my mystic if I'm not worrying about all the super hot components on the analog board slowing cooking the thing.

I was actually debating doing the modifications to my board that you had done JDW in your last video on upgrading the analog board but with this option out I'm more inclined to go this route now.

Edit:
OK after a green light from the misses I bit the bullet and asked to buy one of these kits. Will do up a video for youtube when it arrives :)
