Hey @JDW! Are you using any Sony Trinitron TVs besides the CRT in your Color Classic? That is one of the BEST technologies ever from back in the day!

No, I don't have any of those, unfortunately.

I have three sets with Trinitron displays! In my my main setup, I have a PVM-8045Q (8" PVM with 450 TV lines) and a PVM-14M2U (14" PVM with 600 TV lines). My video signals are a mix of S-Video and Component, going through an Extron switcher. Here, you can see my kids playing N64 and SNES.

Here's the two PVM's up close. The 14" needs to be recapped, and to have some work done on the geometry.

I also have a PVM-14N5U, which has the same tube as the 14M2, but can only do 500 TV lines. I use it with my Apple II, or in this case, playing some Wii games.

Got an Apple M1212 monitor that I use with both my C650 and my IIci. Other than the Mac SE's built-in monitor, it's the only CRT we have today.

My parents had a few so I grew up with Trinitrons. In fact I kept my parents Trinitron from the 80's - it had the matching wood grain stand with smoked black/gray glass magnetic doors. With marriage came the great purge lol and away it all went along with a flat screen Sony Trinitron I was gifted and used for TV (was replaced with a LCD tv). I used these crts not for computers but for retro gaming consoles. Absolutely flawless picture quality. Anyhow, dems da breaks in love and war Click to expand...
Sounds like it might've been either a KV-2792R or 2775R... We had a 2792R that we bought new in 1988 from the old Fredrick & Nelson department store in Bellevue, Washington. Other than the solder joints going cold in the IF assembly twice (once in 1991, then again in 1998 or so), it was a decent TV. Used it as our main TV until late 2006, when we picked up a used KV-32XBR95 that needed a flyback transformer. Moved it to the master bedroom, where it resided until 2010, when the aforementioned 32" TV replaced it after that one was replaced by a 40" Wega flatscreen. By then, the 2792R's colors were a bit red... We also had a KV-13TR24 that my sister bought in 1991 for her own usage - first at her dorm, then at home when she moved back. Eventually, she replaced that with a 20" Wega in 2001 or so. I sometimes used either the 2792 or the 13TR24 with one of my Apple II machines back before I picked up a color monitor in 2001.

I personally have owned the aforementioned M1212 (plus two or three other examples), one or two M0401 AppleColor 13" RGB monitors, a Sony CPD-1304S (shown below), a couple CDM-17SE1 monitors, a GDM-20SE1, a CPD-20SF2, plus one of the graphite CRT Studio Displays that I picked up from a former client of mine in 2007 or so. Used that one with my second B&W G3 system. After that monitor blew up, I switched back to the CPD-20SF2, then eventually picked up a Viewsonic P95f, which was an inch smaller, but still was based on a Sony tube, using the Wega flatscreen technology. I eventually replaced the P95f with a P220f, which was nowhere near the quality. Think that one used a shadowmask tube. Then, picked up a 21" Mitsubishi monitor that was decent. Got close to the quality of a Trinitron tube, but obviously wasn't one, even though the monitor did look like it was made by Sony.

CPD-1304S with my old PowerMac 8500AV - forget the specs on that machine, tho...

It was very very similar to this in shape except it sat on top of a perfectly matching in depth and width smoked glass door base.

It did NOT have however that WX moniker on the left. So very very similar yes, but not exact. IIRC the remote was black. I wish I had not caved like a wuss and I still had that TV. Super cool unit.

This was the flatscreen trinitron I got from my folks when they upgraded to a big flatscreen projection TV.

I liked that TV a lot too (had an awesome picture) but I am a nut for that 80s wood grain so always think back to that first Trinitron especially for my retro consoles.

The one we had was this TV:

Our exact TV can be seen in the background of this photo:

We did have the matching stand for it, though.

The KV-32XBR95 can be seen here:

The 40" TV was this one:
The KV-40XBR800.

That first trinitron you had looks almost identical to the one I had. Look at that pile of gifts for that little boy! Fun memories [father-christmas] Thanks for sharing.

Ive got the lc450 and trinitron display working!

The display shows a glitch once and a while.
But after on for an hour or so it went away largely.
In need of recapping?
After a good clean the plastic looked a lot better.
Next summer an additional candidate for retrobriting.
Looking at the picture quality,
I guess it will indeed last a long time....
Is there a topic/instruction about refurbishing of these monitors somewhere?

The LC generates a high pitch noise over the speaker, so thought it would explode....
but no.
New Caps needed without doubt.

Here you go, @-SE40-! I am sure there are other guides and write-ups about restoring the Apple Macintosh Color Display. I LOVE, LOVE those monitors! They genuinely have the Sony Trinitron tubes and are built to last. :)

This is for the one you have with the stand.

This is for the other ones that do not have a stand that typically was sold with LCs.

I have the 21" version. Great monitor. I believe I read somewhere that the 21" versions were less susceptible to dying. I could be wrong. Mine is great, except for the amount of space it takes up and the weight of moving it upstairs.

Wonder if your parents wound up replacing the remote with a newer version. I know we wound up replacing the original RM-735 remote with a RM-732 remote, which was a larger form factor remote that added some buttons for on-screen menu settings that the 2792 didn't support.

Ah, that would be my now 14 year old niece... lol
