I've got a two channel ATA-133 setup on my TEMPOtrio and would like to set up striped RAID 0 on a pair of DiskOnModules. If SoftRAID won't work with ATA-133 are there other avenues of approach?
It's too bad Sonnet didn't set the card up for hardware RAID? :/ edit: what level of SATA is supported under OS9? hoping to give it a run for the money. |

I've used SoftRAID with the VST UltraTek/66 (ATA-66) which used Firmtek firmware (same as Sonnet's cards) and I've also used it with the Acard AEC-6280M, (Acard firmware) which is an ATA-133 card.
Another option is to get an Acard AEC-6880M which is a hardware RAID (0, 1) ATA-133 card. I think the RAID is still implemented largely in software, through the card's firmware, but it removes the reliance on other apps. Also, a RAID created on the ACARD will work in both OS 7 - 9, and on OSX. As far as I know it is the only way to get a RAID that is usuable in both X and when booted from Classic. Unfortunately, I don't know of any card that implements the 6880M and also adds USB and Firewire. |
