My SE recently just crashed, no screen, no noises, no bong, no disk drive. I thought power supply and wanted to get inside to look at the boards anyway so just thought I'd remove the power supply to check directly. The Sony Model CR-44 power supply has a sticker on the side with pins and voltages listed, so, GREAT pins and voltages! However, measured the voltages and got 5.35 on the 5-volt pins, 13.86 on the 12 volt and -8.5 V on the -12 volt.
So, its unloaded and after searching found that the 12 volt and 5-volt lines are probably correct unloaded. I have enough respect for the CRT that I'd really rather not assemble and plug in to adjust while the CRT is exposed. Regardless, is the -8.5 V on the unloaded Sony Model CR-44 power supply the problem? Will the voltage actually go up on the negative rail when loaded? If it is the -12 volt, should I still be getting a start-up chime? |

It was the analog board...not the power supply.

You were able to fix the problem, or you just found the problem so far?

Took another SE apart, the problem is on the analog board.....I'm guessing fly back as I hear a very quiet clicking

It's pretty much vital to have multiple units to test with, it would seem, in order to determine quickly what the issue could be.
Is the bad fly-back covered in black soot, like it was heavily used over the years? |

It didn't look bad. Will have another look at some point, was just determined to get an accelerator board working so sacrificing one SE ok for now.
