Hi guys

Can one of you recommend a solid webpage that outlines what is necessary to get a Newton 2100 setup to act as an http web server over ethernet. I have all the required hardware adapter. Could be a fun little project.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, Alex.

Unfortunately, there really isn't a single page that explains all of the ins and outs of setting up an NPDS server. (This is something that the NPDS community has been wanting to do for years.)

The original documentation on the NPDS site is a bit dated, but still valid.

Truth be told, it isn't really that hard to get an initial setup running, but there are tweaks along the way that help make administering the server easier.

Although several years old, Tony Kan has a series of posts that go through various aspects of running NPDS:

* Setting up NPDS
* Hassle Free NPDS Administration
* NPDS FAQ
* Troubleshooting My Apple Newton NPDS Server

A full list of his articles can be found here.

Also, Sylvain Pilet has released updated modules for the NPDS suite that are not yet on the official site:

* Anti-Spam for NPDS Server

I've run an NPDS server for years (although it's currently offline) and will gladly help you work through any issues.

Hi Splorp. Thank you for the detailed reply and links.

I have been eager to set up an NPDS server because it seems like a fun little project.

I won't be doing this any time soon but I had a strong feeling someone would be able to lay down the first step. Many thanks.

You've got me thinking that I should get my NPDS server back up and running.

It used to have a dedicated static IP address up until a year or so ago. Now I need to tinker with dynamic DNS and port forwarding to get the outside world to see it.

A few months ago the contract with my ISP ended so I went for fiber 1Gb-1/2Gb down/upstream respectively. I now have the bandwidth to do something like this, although a Newton server would barely touch the stream. You may be interested but just yesterday I contacted the good folks at UNNA if I could be a mirror - it would be an honor and a privilege to give a little back to the community. That's another story but I may as well take advantage of the bandwidth and the Mac mini running crushftp 24/7.

I'm sure that Morgan would appreciate having another active mirror for the UNNA contents.
