I'm upgrading a Quicksilver G4 from 10.3 to 10.4. I don't have any DVDRs so I partitioned an external FW drive and restored the tiger install iso to a 10gb partition using the 10.3.9 disk utility.
when I hold option and boot off of the external drive I get kernel panics at the grey screen. Is there an obvious step I'm missing? |

When you boot into 10.3 with the FW drive attached, and go into startup disk, does the FW drive appear as a valid boot drive? Is your partition scheme APM, MBR or GUID? It probably should be APM for PPC macs.

yes! It shows up as a bootable drive both in startup disk and in the boot menu when I hold option.
