I've got two Thunderbolt displays that both have problems with the panels. Looking at them, I'm wondering if there's a practical solution to pull out the internal guts to make a poor man's Thunderbolt dock with the Tbolt/USB/Ethernet board and some kind of external power.

I've seen but not studied extensively the iFixit teardown of the display, but quick googling doesn't show anyone that's made this attempt.

Before I strike out on my own, would anyone have thoughts and/or leads on this?

Hmm, interesting. I suspect it would work but you'd have the downside of any computer you plug in trying to use the display part.
