Hello everyone!
This question coming from a Newton 2x00 hoarder (shameful). I recently acquired an eMate 300 as it was kind of a "here, take this" encounter. They said it had been a donor, hence no internal ROM present. I did a quick open-up, display cable looks great, hinges look great, did a re-grease, nice. I threw in a Newton 2100 ROM for grins and the screen displayed a fun split screen with text that matches what I've seen when googling about this. So I'm thinking this could work if provided an actual eMate 300 ROM. Is an eBay donor unit my only hope here? Are there Newton eMate hoarders on this board? ;) Thanks in advance! |

If this makes me a hoarder, then yes.
Plan is to fix them all up with new display ribbons, upgrade with DRAM+Flash cards, and then resell. Would rebuild the batteries too if I had a good printable design for that (or a battery spot welder). |

So many eMates...
What an awesome collection. The fun is totally fixing and maxing them out. Get that spot welder, you will not regret it!

They're all functional, so no donors unfortunately. However, I do know of someone with a significant stash of parts and such. I'll DM the details. Liked by retr01 |

Wow. :) So far, I only have ONE eMate 300 that I want to max out the RAM, add a PCIMIA card that I can output to an external display, load all kinds of Newton programs and games, and have fun. I started a thread on it:

Holy smokes, I didn't realize there was a cable for external display!
I gotta see that in action. |

These were PCMCIA adapter cards made by a Canadian company called EZShow Systems. There were two variations of the card sporting different output options, the EZ2VGA and the EZ2TV. They work with MessagePad 2x00 devices as well. EZ2VGAA PC card peripheral by EZShow Systems that provides VGA video output when used with a MessagePad 2000, MessagePad 2100, or eMate 300 device.
