Hello,

I recently picked up a refurbished Centris 650 with a SCSI emulator installed internally in the HDD caddy. That's awesome, but I don't want to have to open the machine every time I want to do something to the SD card (like add new disk images).

I'd like to get a 3D printed part to either replace the front CD-ROM or one of the rear NuBus slot covers with an SD card slot. But, I'm a bit overwhelmed with choosing the right combination of items. Choosing the SD card extension is especially dubious. There are a ton of them on Amazon from brands I've never heard of, with terrible photos that don't actually show me what they look like.

I need:
  1. A MicroSD card slot extender to connect the microSD slot on the SCSI emulator to an external slot.
  2. 3D printing files for either a Quadra/Centris 650 NuBus slot or the front CD ROM external slot for the slot extender to attach to.
I'd really appreciate any advice on working configurations of extender cable and NuBus slot/CD ROM slot bracket. I'm most likely going to have them printed somewhere; I don't have a 3D printer of my own yet.

Thanks!

Hi @sinisterpisces ,

Grants on the Centris 650! There is an option that I know of for the IIci that is available. I am not sure if it will fir for your machine, but it is good start to get some ideas and maybe to adapt to your use case. Here is the link for it on Printables.com:

The author lists which extension SD card cable he used for the SD card extension. I know the cable works, because I just got that very one for use in my IIci with an internal BlueScsi v2.

His design requires a separate tool to remove the SD Card. I am in the process of setting up my IIcI, so I am popping out the card a lot, so I took his design and modified so the card can be more easily removed without with a need for a tool. It basically reverses the area for SD Card holder and I made it so it slightly protrudes from the back. Here is what it looks like:

I will posting the newer design shortly. I hope this helps!

I have a IIci but not a Q700, so I don't know if the slot openings are the same. Your Printable link makes no mention of the IIci. Do you know for certain it is IIci-compatible? If it is, I might have it printed at JLC. Of course, it would be nice to know if that same STL applies to the Q650 too.

BTW, I purchased that same SD card extender shown in your photo in the past but for the life of me, I cannot find any 3D-printable SE or SE/30 Expansion Slot adapters that are compatible with it. Not sure why because it seems to be a popular extender. So if you ever come across such an adapter, I'd appreciate it if you could share the link.

The slots for both the IIci and Q700 are physically the same. So it will work in both.

I will keep an eye out! But how about mounting an entire BlueScsi v2 there?:D

Putting the entire BlueSCSIv2 (large relative to BSv1) right at the Expansion Slot can block some PDS card stacks and otherwise gets in the way. Having a comparatively smaller SD card extender in that location though won't create problems. Also, I use MacSD in addition to BlueSCSI, and mounting it directly above the floppy drive is best for my use case most of the time. An SD Card Extender accessible from the back Expansion Slot would allow me to swap the card without opening the case.

Hi @JDW ,
I think I found what you are looking for! It is the second model from this post:
https://www.printables.com/model/572256-macintosh-se-se30-expansion-slot-option-panels

The interesting thing is that one of the designers is a member here on the forums.

And I have not forgotten about you either, @sinisterpisces. Someone has also designed what you are looking for. Here is the link: https://www.printables.com/model/160344-expansion-slot-sd-card-mount-for-mac-quadra-650-an
