July 12 2025 Board Meeting

Agenda:

Item 1:

Fundraiser / Donation Drive

Notes:

• The Board of Directors has been donating most of the cost of hosting, and we would like to encourage more small donors to join in
  • It costs approximately $60 per month to keep the Tinker Different site running
• @eric will own the work around organizing a donation drive, announcements, banners for the site, etc
• @Kai Robinson will reach out to a few UK based youtubers / groups
• A "donator" role has been created on Discord and will be awarded to those who donate to help keep the site running

Item 2:

Admin Group Phase-In

Notes:

• The Board of Directors intends to add Eric to the Admin Group at the end of this Board Term

Item 3:

Merch Store Again

Notes:

• The existing Merch Store isn't really working out, it's too manual and fiddly
• @This Does Not Compute is investigating Red Bubble as a less-manual alternative
• @Androda to work on shutting down the existing merch store

Item 4:

Resources Section Wikification

Notes:

• There was debate about whether Tinker Different needs a Wiki, as the existing Resources section is rather inflexible
• A plugin exists for XenForo which makes the Resources section more collaborative and editable
• @Kai Robinson will investigate

Item 5:

Moderator Check-ins

Notes:

• This was a quick discussion with Colin about whether meetings with Moderators have been going well (they have)
• Recently there has been less Moderator action necessary, and we've seen an uptick in site activity which is great news

Item 6:

Board Meeting Cadence

Notes:

• January to july was too large a gap, Board Meetings should be quarterly at least

This little banner should be present at the top right of the site root (just tinkerdifferent.com, not viewing a forum thread or subforum).

That's all the notice we have currently about where to donate. Currently we lack some experience in figuring out how to make the button appear anywhere else or in a more prominent way.

Ah I wasn't seeing it due to content blockers. Perhaps consider how that's rendering in case it might not be seen by most folks with content blockers on. Thanks!
